The role of health care providers in the detection of domestic violence cases in Jordan ​

 
 
Domestic violence is one of the most important social problems, which have the greatest impact on public health in any society. Health care providers, especially nurses, are key in reducing the effect of domestic violence on individuals through early identification and helping victims of violence. 
 Therefore, the Faculty of Nursing were delighted to welcome Doctor Eman Shehadeh, head of the domestic violence department at the Ministry of Health (MOH) on November 10, 2015, to share from her long experience on the topic with the Nursing students.
 In her presentation, Dr. Shehadeh highlight the important role performed by the health care providers, especially nurses, in early screening of domestic violence, especially violence against women
 
Dr. Shehadeh also introduced the students to domestic violence as a concept and a problem, its types, and patterns. Then she elaborated in her speech on the procedures should be taken while dealing with the abusive and the victim, from both legal and health aspects. Particularly on the methods used to follow up with the victims in line with the regulations of the Ministry of Health.
Finally, Dr. Shehadeh emphasized on the role of nurses and health care providers in the detection of cases of violence because they represent the first line of contact with victims of violence, and their role in providing comprehensive health service and counseling for the victimes and dealing with the abusive.
